WHO WE ARE
South Central Orlando celebrates the 5 unique yet interconnected communities south of downtown Orlando: Conway, Belle Isle, Pine Castle, Edgewood, and Holden/Gatlin.
Our mission is to be a one-stop shop for information, highlighting important community events and creating meaningful connections between citizens, organizations, and local government.
Whether you access information on our 24/7 streaming channel, follow us on social media, or visit our website for the latest community news, we hope South Central fills your calendar with exciting events and transforms the way you interact with your community.
ABOUT OUR REGION
In many ways, the South Central Orlando region is a series of small towns just south of a big city. This means it comes with big city problems like traffic and congestion, but also comes with small town benefits like familiar faces, local activities, close-knit neighborhoods, and strong school communities.
South Central is defined by its geography, featuring many beautiful lakes including Lake Conway, Little Lake Conway, Lake Jessamine, Lake Gatlin, and Lake Jennie Jewell (just to name a few). As a result, much of the region’s culture is centered around water activities like swimming, boating, fishing, and wakeboarding.
By our definition, the borders of South Central are:
South of Pineloch Avenue
North of 528
East of Orange Blossom Trail and
West of Semoran Blvd.
While each of the 5 communities in South Central is unique (many with their own elected officials, police departments, and services), they are also interconnected. As an example, each year the community gathers for Pine Castle Pioneer Days, in Lake Holden Shore’s Cypress Grove Park, protected by the Edgewood Police Department, with vendors from Belle Isle and other communities, and is open to individuals from all over Central Florida. A deeper dive into the history of the area reveals that the entire region once fell under the “Pine Castle” name before individual communities developed.
Perhaps the ultimate testament to the community’s interconnectedness is the many families that call the different parts of South Central home. All in all, South Central is a community with many names but a shared experience.
Note:
We have classified the Sky Lake community and its events under “Pine Castle” and the eastern Oak Ridge communities and its events under “Edgewood.” This is not to take away from these communities’ identities or role in our region, but to simplify things on the production end.
